SD Taskforce for Native Moms & Babies
The South Dakota
Taskforce for Native Moms and Babies are MCH professionals, tribal and
state representatives collaborating together to improve the health
needs of Native moms and babies in South Dakota. The Taskforce is
composed of representatives from each of the nine South Dakota Tribes,
South Dakota Department of Health, Indian Health Service, Northern
Plains Healthy Start, and other stateholders. The purpose of the
Taskforce is to establish statewide priorities, improve MCH capacity,
and foster additonal collabloration between tribal, state,and federal
agencies in efforts to improve the health needs of Native moms and
babies in South Dakota.
How the Taskforce was developed
The Taskforce members had provided oversight and guidance to the South Dakota Tribal PRAMS project for over two years as the Tribal Oversight and Steering Committees (TOC/SC). As the SDT PRAMS project neared it's last year in 2008, TOC/SC members wanted to continue to serve Native moms and babies in South Dakota and so formed the Taskforce.
