Methamphetamine & Other Drug Use Exploratory Research Project
The Methamphetamine and Other Drug (MOD) use study is funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). It is an exploratory and pilot study to explore the
epidemiology of methamphetamine use and other drug use co-occurring problems
and disorders in diverse American Indian communities in the Aberdeen Area.
The study is being conducted in collaboration with the NIDA Clinical Trials Network, Ohio Valley Node, City County/Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program, Prairielands Addiction Technology Transfer Center (PATTC), and three American Indian tribes in the Aberdeen Area. Using focus groups and structured clinical interviews, information obtained from this study will begin to build a foundation for more rigorous epidemiologic studies and/or clinical research on methamphetamine and other drug use and abuse in Indian Country.
The project will also offer the potential to increase tribal awareness of the origins and causes of methamphetamine and other drug use, patterns and community trends, and use relative to alcohol and other illicit drugs.
