Behavioral Health
MISSION
To promote culturally appropriate prevention and early intervention of substance abuse and to improve the health and well-being of Northern Plains Indian people through integrated behavioral health initiatives.
VISION
To create a regional center for excellence in behavioral health that will address disparities associated with substance abuse, the mental disorders and STIs of American Indians in the Northern Plains through partnerships with Aberdeen Area tribes, academic institutions, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and providers of services to tribal communities. Major areas of focus include:
- Data management and public health surveillance of behavioral health programs and services
- Tribal leadership development through education and training
- Collaborative research projects with tribal partners
- Translation and dissemination of behavioral health models and best practices
- Policy analysis, development and legislation
